Three Virginia Brewers Dominate Craft Brewing in Virginia

The BeerAdvocate keeps a running tab of the highest rated beers brewed in each state. According to their current list, 36 of the top 50 rated beers in Virginia were produced by the same three brewers.

Aslin Beer Company not only has the top spot on the Beer Advocate’s list of the top Virginia beers with their Masters of Karate IPA, but it held 14 of the top 50 spots, as well as 3 of the top 5!

Hardywood Park Craft Brewery held 10 of the top 50, including the number 2 spot with their Trickery Milk Stout.

It was interesting to note that all of the top 15 rated beers were from Aslin and Hardywood- all except one.

The Veil Brewing Company took 12 of the top 50 spots, with their Critical Taunt Imperial IPA coming in at #7.

AleWerks captured 5 spots on the top 50 list with their Café Royale Milk Stout coming in at #22.

Lickinghole Creek captured 2 spots on the list with their Supreme Leader Imperial Stout coming in at #26.

The Answer also captured 2 spots on the list with their Mouth Hug Imperial IPA coming in at #42.

Ocelot Brewing Company held the #19 spot with their Talking Backwards Triple IPA. Brothers Craft Brewing held the #20 spot with their Resolute Bourbon Barrel Russian Imperial Stout. Mad Fox Brewing Company held the # 37 spot with their Orange Whip IPA. Lost Rhino Brewing got the #46 spot with their Exesus Sanctum Wild American Ale, and Xtra Billy’s Smokehouse And Brewery captured the #48 spot with their Citra Ass Down IPA.

It is important to note that according to their web site, their rating system not only ranks the beers by their average rating, but also takes into account the number of times a beer has been rated. This means that if a beer has a 4.5 average with over 2,500 ratings, it would rank higher than a beer with a 4.75 average rating with less than 100 ratings.
