Ono Brewing Company’s 2nd “Onoversary” brings a Hawaiian Cultural Experience to Chantilly, Virginia on September 28, 2019

Ono Brewing Company in Chantilly, Virginia, may be a long way from Hawaii, but on September 28th they are bringing the spirit of the Hawaiian islands here to Fairfax County. “Ono” means “delicious” or “tasty” in Hawaiian. With family connections to Hawaii,  Ono Brewing Company owners Scott and Cyndi Hoffman wanted Ono Brewing to be a tropical oasis in the middle of fast-paced Northern Virginia. Officially opening two years ago, the tropical-themed brewery is celebrating its anniversary, or “Onoversary” as they like to call it, on September 28th with an all-day Hawaiian Luau party and Hawaiian cultural event.

The family-friendly festivities will begin at 1pm and will include seven hours of live Hawaiian entertainment including fourteen different Hawaiian music and hula dancing performances, Hawaiian crafters and vendors, lei making demonstrations, food from Odd BBQ including traditional Hawaiian plate lunches with traditional Kalua pork and other BBQ plates and sandwiches. Some of the Hawaiian craft vendors will offer treats from the islands such as Hawaiian shaved ice and a Samoan dessert called Pain popo, which are coconut sweet rolls.

Among the performances will be several area halau (hula schools) such as Halau Nohona Hawai’i , Halau O ‘Aulani, Halau Ho’omau I Ka Wai Ola O Hawai’i and E ala E Hawaiian Cultural Center. Traditional Hawaiian music will be performed by the Northern Virginia Ukulele Ensemble, Hawaii State Society of Washington, DC – HSS ‘Ukulele Hui, Kupono, Na Kawika and The Aloha Boys, just to name a few! Pre-sale tickets for the event are available on Ono Brewing Company’s website at www.onobrewco.com or on their Facebook page.

In addition to  Ono Brewing Company’s unique connection to Hawaii, the brewery also has a lot going on that is newsworthy. The brewery is home to the area’s first state of the art self-serve beer wall. At Ono, customers are their own bartenders and pour their own beer and pay by the ounce! The self-serve beer wall has a rotating selection of 10 beers on tap, all brewed on the premises, including beers with names and flavors inspired by the tropics such as their best-selling  “Manako”, an American wheat beer with mango and “Island Time” a brown ale with coconut, as well as traditional and seasonal favorites such as Huli Pau, an Oktoberfest lager and Jack-O a delicious pumpkin ale.

Known in the Chantilly area not just for great beer served in a great atmosphere, but also for the significant contributions they make to their community, Ono Brewing has become a favorite spot for many locals. It was important to the Hoffmans in the planning stages of their young brewery to give back to the community, so they decided to select a different local charity to support each month. 50% of all tips/gratuities collected each month are donated to that charity. Since opening their doors in September 2017, Ono Brewing Company supported 24 local charities and donated a grand total of $53, 013.38!!To learn more about the great organizations Ono Brewing has supported or to suggest a great local organizations for future consideration, visit https://www.onobrewco.com/monthly-charity.

And as if things could not get any better, the Ono Brewing Company package of great beer and a great atmosphere was made complete in May 2018 with the addition of great food! Ono Brewing Company has partnered with Odd BBQ to provide food full-time to hungry brewery patrons. Odd BBQ is now open inside the tasting room every day the tasting room is open. Odd BBQ serves a menu of delicious BBQ platters and specialty sandwiches, including customer favorites “cheesy biscuit sliders” made with cheesy biscuits that are baked fresh daily, and a traditional Hawaiian Kalua Pork plate lunch special to pair with the brewery’s Hawaiian theme. Odd BBQ will be serving a special menu for Ono Brewing Company’s upcoming Onoversary event on September 28th.
