RVA Brew BQ

Last Sunday marked the 4th Annual RVA BrewBQ Festival. And if you were unable to attend this event, you have my sympathy. It was a beautiful day, and while it was bit on the hot side, it was nothing a delicious ice cold craft beer couldn’t fix. And fortunately there was plenty to be had.

Starr Hill, Midnight, Isley, Strangeways, Hardywood, Steam Bell, and many more craft brewers were on hand with their finest brews. And the BBQ? Oh, the BBQ.

Buz and Ned’s, Alamo, The Flying Pig, Halligans, Jadean’s Smoken Six O, and several more were serving up pulled pork, ribs, brisket, sausage, chicken, and much, much, more smoked to juicy tender perfection!

This was a great event, and a good time was had by all. However, if I were to offer one bit of criticism, it would be that there were not slightly smaller portions available. Personally, there is only so much I can eat at one time, and only so much I can drink while remaining semi-responsible. Yet there was so much amazing food, and such a variety of craft beer, that I could only sample a very small amount of what was available.

There were 17 breweries present, and each were serving at least 2 different beers in 16 oz cups. I can’t drink 34 full pours. Truthfully, I can’t drink half that. If there had been, say a 4 oz size available, I could have tried 4 times as many beers without feeling the urge to dance on tables.

Also, I would have loved to sample a variety of the amazing BBQ on hand, but alas, I can only eat so much. If only there had been smaller portions available, I could have had a greater variety from more venders without needing a wheel barrow to carry me home.

Still, this was a great event, and I will be looking forward to next year.
